It has been nearly four decades since I began my career with Ames Construction, and I am proud to say that my time here has been a defining period of my life. Throughout all of these years, I have had the privilege to work alongside the most amazing people in our industry.
Ames has been like a second home to me. The warmth and care of the owners and my coworkers have made it the very best place to work. I have witnessed Ames’ growth from a small company to the thriving business we see today, and I have been honored to play a part in our success.
Along with company founder Dick Ames, Butch, Mark, Ron and John poured their energy, hearts and time into making Ames Construction what it is today. They are great mentors, and I have the deepest respect and admiration for each of them. They made coming to work enjoyable—they made it fun, even during the lean, hard times.
I have the utmost respect for our President/CEO, Jerry Ouimet. Jerry is a highly principled man with integrity and vision. He is surrounding himself with the vastly competent team that will continue to take Ames far into the future.
I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge God’s hand in my life and in my career. There have been innumerable times when I was certain that He was watching over and guiding our company. I began nearly every day with a prayer that our workers would be safe and make good choices. I expect I will continue to pray that our people stay safe and keep a watchful eye on each other.
As hard as it is to leave, I am excited to spend more time with my wife, Laurie, and to spend some additional time with our five amazing children and our incredible 10 grandchildren. I have a pretty long bucket list, which includes spending time traveling to our 50 states, helping kids with home projects, watching grandkids in sports, some additional time fishing and working on my pathetic golf game.
I wish all of you the very best in your work and personal lives. I may not be a part of Ames’ future, but I am glad to have been a part of our past.
My best to all of you.
