Ames Flashback: Aggregates Team Forms in 1989

Sixty-Two: Ames News — delivered.

🎉 Happy 35th Anniversary to Ames’ Aggregates Processing Team!

Ames' aggregates processing team was formed in 1989 by Les Steffes and Mark Brennan when a Nevada mining client wanted a single-source contractor that could self-perform all project activities.

The early team worked primarily in Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. Today, the group travels to projects across the country, handling 8 to 10 million tons of aggregates annually (and up to 15 million in big years).

About 120 team members strong, the group functions as an internal, specialized service provider that helps Ames retain more control over project schedules and costs. Based in the Western Region, the team is currently contributing to projects from North Carolina to California.

“This team is successful because the people in our core group are willing to travel to different parts of the country to take on new challenges and adventures,” says Scott Nelson, Vice President of Aggregates and Paving.

Some of the group’s biggest projects in terms of aggregates handled have been the $1 billion I-CORE project in Utah, a Nevada crushing operation that has been ongoing since 1996, Loop 202 in Arizona, and the Azusa reclamation project in California. Ames’ aggregates capabilities have also been a critical factor in ongoing mining contracts at Safford and Morenci, Arizona.

🙌 Thank you to everyone on the aggregates team! You help our people, clients, partners, and communities to flourish.
