Ames joins forces with companies across the nation for Construction Safety Week starting Monday, May 6. With the 2024 theme “Value Every Voice,” Construction Safety Week promotes a jobsite culture that encourages, listens, and empowers each person.
👷♀️ Monday, May 6: Driving Personal Ownership
The construction industry has extensive safety standards, processes, and procedures. Yet, serious incidents can occur at any time. Everyone must accept a greater level of responsibility for our own safety and the safety of others. When it comes to safety, “If you see it, you own it. If you walk by it, you condone it.”
💡 Tuesday, May 7: Encouraging and Welcoming New Ideas
When we value every voice, we ensure that every team member has a chance to add ideas. Safety isn’t restricted to the ideas of the loudest voices on the crew. Instead, everyone is empowered to ask questions, challenge norms, share ideas, and solve problems together. Conversations that include the entire crew result in better hazard identification and safer work processes.
🤗 Wednesday, May 8: Embracing Every Voice
By embracing every voice, we create a culture that values and hears every team member. When people know that their voice is heard, morale and engagement improve. Teams are more productive, and a variety of perspectives are brought into the conversation. We embrace every voice through open communication, active listening, communicating concerns, encouraging engagement, and conducting follow-ups.
💪 Thursday, May 9: Strengthening Our Culture
Safety is critical to our success. The projects we work on are a part of our legacy. They’re the sum of work greater than any one of us. It’s rewarding to say “I built that” to our friends and families. This kind of pride is bound by the safety culture we establish and the work habits we follow.
🙏 Friday, May 10: Thank You for Using Your Voice
Everyone has something to contribute to our safety culture. When we welcome every voice, we increase everyone’s understanding of a task and its hazards. We then create more efficient and effective solutions, which helps to prevent incidents. Thank you for participating in Construction Safety Week 2024! Safety is a team effort every day of the year, and everyone has a voice.
