Team Ames helps to bring a Nevada community together around a hockey rink.

The community of Elko, Nevada, enjoyed a new outdoor ice-skating rink this past winter, thanks to the hard work of many volunteers including Ames team members.

Beginning in 2021, Ames has supplied people and equipment to construct the rink, pitching in during winter months to make it a reality for the community.

A 247-ton chiller keeps the ice cold, so even during unusually warm winter temperatures, the rink can be used consistently. The rink hosts the Elko Hockey League plus tournaments for kids and adults and open skate times.

Matt Burwell, president of the Kinross Nevada Igloo Rec Center, told the “Elko Daily Free Press” that the volunteer effort—including labor, money, and materials—was “unbelievable.”

“Towns our size do not usually have stuff like this. It is pretty neat. … People are really supporting it, so we are grateful,” Burwell said.
