From the Field: Indiana Crossroads Solar Park

Sixty-Two: Ames News — delivered.

Ames crews broke ground at the 270-megawatt Indiana Crossroads Solar Park project in White County in late 2021, and the project will be substantially complete in April 2023. The utility-scale solar park will be comprised of six circuits with approximately 11 inverters per circuit. Five of the six circuits were completed by Dec. 18, 2022.

Ames overcame material delays, shortages, and substitutions that affected the schedule and hindered project completion. These impacts were remedied through owner change orders, and the project schedules were adjusted accordingly.

The project also overcame wild weather patterns including deluge rain events, snow, and wind, including three events with sustained winds above 50mph. These winds caused some property damage to solar panels that had already been installed.

At peak, Ames employed more than 500 craft workers and laborers at Crossroads. Our team members worked tirelessly through both Thanksgiving and Christmas to meet our obligations and secure the incentives bonus offered by the client, affording our client a successful financial close on the project by the end of 2022.

Because of the efforts of Ames, our subcontractors, the owner, and additional stakeholders, substation energization was achieved on time with no complications. The solar park is designed to generate enough energy to power the equivalent of 38,000 homes.

Crossroads is Ames' second successfully completed project with this client, and we look forward to working with them again in the near future.
