Groundbreaking Kicks Off METRO Gold Line BRT Project
A groundbreaking ceremony in October formally launched the construction of the Metro Gold Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in the Twin Cities east metro area. Ames is building this 10-mile transit line—Minnesota’s first BRT line to operate primarily in bus-only lanes.
Minnesota elected officials spoke about the benefits of the project, including frequent, all-day service; heated shelters; lighting and security features; and real-time arrival and departure information. The Gold Line will connect people along the Interstate 94 corridor to jobs, housing, transit stations, and key destinations.
The project includes the construction of 20 bus stations, eight new road bridges, two new pedestrian bridges, two bridge rehabilitations, 43 retaining walls and eight noise walls. Work is anticipated to extend through January 2025.
