Ames hosts ‘Heavy Equipment Rodeo’ for students at Rosemount Facility
“We need the next generation to have exposure to these amazing career opportunities, and Ames is happy to open our doors and show them what this industry has to offer”
High school students from across Minnesota tested their skills behind the controls of a bulldozer, excavator, and more at a “heavy equipment rodeo” at our Rosemount maintenance facility in October.
Ames and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49 teamed up to host the event, giving students and their parents up-close and hands-on exposure to various pieces of heavy equipment. The students are all enrolled in the Operating Engineers Pathway program offered by Minnesota Virtual Academy and Local 49.

The day included facility tours, clamming and rough terrain crane/picker demonstrations, and the opportunity to experience simulators and operate equipment in the field. Attendees learned about Ames' history in front of the Dozer Museum which houses the company’s first D8 dozer.
