Brent Wilber, CAO Ames Construction

Brent Wilber is Ames’ new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). We asked Brent to introduce himself and share about the work he will be doing at Ames:

As CAO, I will be responsible for company standards and our continuing development in the areas of employee safety and health, corporate quality management, environmental policies, and resiliency. I will also be in charge of implementing all policy changes for each of these areas. I am eager to work with the high-functioning teams already in place and build on the successes Ames has experienced in these areas for the last 60 years.

When the opportunity to join Ames Construction was presented to me, it was an easy decision to make. While working with the Midwest Region for more than 20 years in sub-contractual and joint venture relationships, I developed a great deal of admiration for individuals within Ames and the entire organization. I have big shoes to fill. Roger McBride has been a cornerstone at Ames, building the safety, quality, and environmental teams and programs from the ground up. Continuing his success is not something I take lightly.

I have been around mining and construction my entire life. I grew up in a family business that produced aggregates and performed road construction. My career began as a laborer on a pipe crew shortly after I graduated from high school. This upbringing and experience sparked an interest in construction that led me to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I earned a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. After college, I moved to the Twin Cities and began working on highway, heavy civil, and structural projects throughout the Upper Midwest. My role in these projects ranged from Field Engineer to Senior Vice President of Operations.

I look forward to applying my 30 years of operational experience to Ames’ safety program, quality management, and environmental strategies.

I look forward to applying my 30 years of operational experience to Ames’ safety program, quality management, and environmental strategies. Although my previous roles were operationally focused, I have always had the mindset that we are all responsible for workforce safety, protecting the environment, and delivering quality work. In my years in operations management, I worked directly with my staff in these areas and fostered an attitude that our company’s success depended on these functions. I’m confident that I will find the same mindset at Ames.
