One of Jessica Vargas-Cabrera’s favorite memories is waking up at 6 a.m. to help her father renovate a garage into a small home for a family friend. Those early experiences sparked her passion for construction and ultimately led her to Ames.

She studied Construction Engineering and Management in college, and after two summer internships with Ames, Jessica accepted a full-time offer.

“I was drawn to Ames not only for the work but for the culture. One thing that immediately stood out to me was the company’s strong focus on family. Family is extremely important to me, so finding a workplace that shared those values made Ames feel like the perfect fit.”

As a field engineer at the San Gabriel Reservoir project, Jessica enjoys the balance between field and office work. “In the office, I help plan and schedule the work for the following day, and the most rewarding part is going out into the field and seeing those plans come to life.”

Away from work, Jessica enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends. “We like to stay active and plan different activities each weekend, trying new things together and creating memories.”

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Switzerland during the winter. I’ve always wanted to see the lakes and villages, and especially experience snowboarding there.
