Newly Awarded Project: US 74 Shelby Bypass

Sixty-Two: Ames News β€” delivered.

Ames was recently awarded a project to construct a new bypass alignment of US 74 in Shelby, North Carolina.

Project scope includes the construction of a four-lane, six-mile-long roadway, including four miles of new roadway and two miles of existing road expansion.

Additional work will include:

  • eight bridges ranging from 50 feet to 320 feet in length
  • two noise walls
  • one new interchange
  • three box culverts
  • a stream relocation

Clearing and grubbing and erosion control activities are set to begin this fall, with structures and earthwork activities beginning in early 2024.

Substantial completion is anticipated for late 2028.
