Joined Ames: 2002
Position: Vice President, Bridges and Structures
Jerry Volz’s professional relationship with Ames began in 1983, when Edward Kraemer and Sons (Jerry’s employer at the time) teamed up with Ames on the I-494/Highway 110 interchange project in South St. Paul, Minnesota.
Many Ames-Kraemer partnerships followed, but none more significant to Jerry than the Jim Falls Hydroelectric project in Wisconsin. That’s where he met Jane Everson, Ames’ project engineer on the hydroelectric job (and the daughter of Ames’ first engineer, Jerry Everson). They were married in 1987.
In 2002, Jerry came to work for Ames full-time, tasked with helping the company grow its bridges and structures group. During his tenure, Ames has constructed or is in the progress of building 13 major river bridges spanning the Mississippi, Minnesota, Missouri, and St. Croix rivers; more than 400 railroad bridges; and signature bridges in many states.
While contributing to some of the largest and most complex structures in the U.S., he also devised ways to perform the work quicker without compromising quality and safety.
Jerry is looking forward to hiking the Pacific Crest Trail with Jane, spending time at their cabin near Minnesota’s BWCA, spoiling his grandkids, and traveling the country.
