Joined Ames: 1989
Position: Project Superintendent, Rocky Mountain

John Trobec joined Ames during the Denver International Airport project as a scraper operator. Over the past 35 years, he worked as a foreman, mechanic, mine superintendent, and project superintendent. He learned three lessons early on that he carried into these roles: Treat everyone the way you would like to be treated; never use the words “I,” “me,” or “mine”; and everything is a “we job”—there is no “I” in team.

Projects that were particularly memorable for him were Highway 285 Phases 3 and 4 in Colorado in the late 1990s and the project that launched his Ames career. “Denver International Airport was the largest project in the U.S. for a couple years. There were so many good people, and it was such a busy site 24/7/365.”

“Ames is a wonderful family company. There are so many great people and I have so many great memories. I would like to say a special thanks to Larry Ames.”
