Mark “Big Rig” Martin
Joined Ames: 1989
Position: Truck Driver, Southwest

Mark “Big Rig” Martin was working construction in Colorado when Ames had an opening in 1989. “Tom Ames hired me and sent me to Carlin, Nevada, for two weeks,” Mark says. “I ended up being there 14 years.”

While driving for Ames in the western U.S. for 35 years, Mark had numerous encounters with wildlife. He’s seen a grizzly bear climb on Ames equipment at a project site in Montana, had a herd of elk climb over his lowboy trailer, and watched wild stallions brawl on a haul road in Nevada.

He admires the Ames brothers and Mark Brennan, who worked “astronomical” hours and knew how to “git-er-done.”

“The Ames boys always treated me like family, and I appreciate that.”

Because of Ames, he has friends all over the country, and he’s looking forward to hanging out with them in retirement. “Everyone else has a ‘honey do’ list. I’m going to go out and do what I want to do.”
