Joined Ames: 2006
Position: Project Survey Manager, Reno, Nevada
After graduating high school, Justin Hillis opted to work with friends, starting with MSN technical support. He job hopped from there until his father-in-law, an Ames operator, suggested that he look into the operator union's apprenticeship program. He soon got a call from Ames and went to work at Kennecott.
Nearly 20 years later, he’s still at Ames. He enjoys the fact that no job is identical, and he learns something new everywhere he goes.
“Each job is a new opportunity to grow and be better. Jim Jarrett taught me to never be complacent; there is always a better way to do it.”
He also enjoys looking back on completed projects and the teams he’s been a part of. “The people I’ve met here at Ames have been amazing.”
When he’s not working, Justin is happy as long as he’s spending time with his wife and daughters, whether they are playing games at home or enjoying the outdoors.
