Joined Ames: 1984
Position: Superintendent

Jim Jarrett joined Ames in 1984 at the suggestion of a cousin who was working for Ames on the Intermountain Power Plant project in Delta, Utah. Jim met with Larry Ames at the worksite, intending to ask for a job.

“I had my grade setting tool with me. He didn’t ask me any questions. All he said was, ‘Go get in the truck and go to work.’ That’s how I was hired.”

Within a month, Jim was backfilling structures. After another month, he had a team of 15 working under him, backfilling on the night shift. As a superintendent, he worked on numerous high-profile projects, and he mentions the SR 439 USA Parkway construction in Nevada as a highlight because it was a design-build project, which allowed Ames to put its own signature on it.
