Good day! I hope you are well.
I was recently speaking on the topic of people with someone who has been working at Ames for more than 30 years. In the conversation he asked what we do with all of the engineers we have.
My answer was that the engineers do whatever it takes to make sure we keep the field going.
Meaning, “what we do” is make sure we keep building and doing so safely, with quality, and on schedule and budget.
Each day the tasks may change, from helping someone get paid, to working on a submittal or RFI (request for information); managing costs and budgets; working with the client, subcontractors, and suppliers; turning wrenches; stacking lumber; shoveling tracks; and so on.
I thought about this answer a bit more, and I think the answer applies to everyone at Ames, whether you’re a mechanic, operator, carpenter, truck driver, laborer, superintendent, foreman, accountant, IT professional, attorney, proposal writer, business manager, construction manager, project manager, HR professional, writer, marketer, safety or quality professional, owner, or engineer, among the many roles people perform at Ames.
My answer is still the same.
We need to be doing whatever it takes to make sure we keep building.
